Our Favorites in the Diablo Valley, Ca

As avid pet lovers and devoted dog parents, many of us try our best to bring our pups wherever we can so they can have some fun, enrichment, and socialization. We want to let our pups in on as much as life has to offer them, and sometimes that means bringing them along for mealtime!

While many (if not most) restaurants are not dog-friendly, there definitely are some that will welcome your furry friend, as well as serve you some delicious food! In this article, we  have narrowed down some of the most dog-friendly restaurants found throughout the California Diablo Valley that not only welcome your pup, but also offer a delicious food that will fill you up and satisfy your cravings!

The Restaurants

Canyon Club Brewery- Danville, Ca

Located in the Danville Livery Mercantile, the Canyon Club Brewery is one of our team’s new favorites! For those who enjoy a yummy adult beverage, they have an amazing selection of cocktails, beers, wines, and ciders; you’re sure to find something that you’ll love. They even have a nice selection of local beers, wines, and ciders to try; we are always fond of supporting local businesses!

They also have a wide variety of yummy food including small bites & appetizers, specialties like fish and chips & buffalo mac ‘n cheese, lighter fare like soups & salads, as well as some traditional brewery style food like burgers & wings. Everything that our team has tried from this brewery has been delicious and has made us look forward to the next visit.

The staff is lovely, accommodating, and extremely friendly which is always a plus! They are also super knowledgeable about the drink selection and will help you find something you are bound to love. Not only do they have excellent food and beverages, they are also very dog friendly! They have a big patio section in front with fire pits and heat lamps to keep you and your pup warm! As well as a dog menu with dog-safe eats for your furry friend! Also, don’t be surprised when the staff wants to say hello to your pup, it seems they are all dog lovers, just like us!

Fat Maddie’s Grille- San Ramon, Ca

With locations in San Ramon, as well as Blackhawk, Fat Maddie’s Grille is a local favorite that is accommodating to our furry friends. Fat Maddie’s is a family run business that opened in 2010. They pride themselves on sticking to their farm-stand fresh standards of quality in the kitchen. Locals love the tasty and fresh ingredients, the friendly service, as well as their consistent quality; keeping them coming back for over a decade now!

They have a diverse menu with a variety of salads, gyros, sandwiches, burgers, and chops. They even offer a nice selection of vegetarian dishes! Some of their top-rated and most ordered menu items are the California burger, chicken gyro, clam chowder, and their garlic feta fries; yum!

Their front patio dining section welcomes your friendly leashed pup, and they even have water bowls available for them. Fat Maddie’s is the perfect option for a delicious lunch when you’ve been out on the town with your pup and need a quick bite!

Crumbs- Downtown danville, ca

Crumbs is yet another local favorite serving delicious breakfast, lunch, cocktails, and bakery items. If you have been wanting to try Crumbs for a yummy brunch on a weekend, we would suggest you get there early before the line and wait starts!

Their brunch menu is expansive including traditional favorites like biscuits and gravy or eggs benedict, as well as other zesty choices like breakfast burritos and chilaquiles.

They also have their fair share of breakfast items for those who have sweet tooth, such as pancakes, waffles, crepes, and French toast. They also have menus catering to special dietary restricts, like vegans, vegetarians, and those following a keto diet.

Locals also love their full-bar where you can get classic brunch beverages like specialty coffees and mimosas, as well as a variety of other cocktails, beers, and wine. Customers have described Crumbs as friendly and accommodating, with a cozy atmosphere, and having quality food that is consistently delicious.

The Danville location (there’s also a location in Pleasant Hill) offers a beautiful patio eating area where you are welcome to bring your friendly pup! They even have a dog-friendly menu to order them a snack from; this dog-friendly menu includes charbroiled chicken, bacon, ground beef patties, and yummy sausage!

Rooted Coffee co- Walnut creek, ca

If you are in the Walnut Creek area with your furry friend, and are looking for a quick bite and pick-me-up, check out Rooted Coffee Co! By just tasting their delicious coffees and food items, you would not realize, or complain, that their entire menu is vegan friendly. Rooted is a family run business that prides themselves on offering exceptional product without sacrificing their values. Their fully plant-based menu reflects their values and expertise in a uniquely delicious way.

They offer a variety of delicious hand crafted coffee beverages including (hot and iced) lattes, americanos, cappuccinos, cortados, cold brews, and drip brews. For tea-enthusiasts, they offer chai, matcha, as well as herbal teas. Their syrups are house-made from organic flavors and spices.

They also have a wide variety of food items, including bakery items such as donuts, cookies, and scones. As an initiative to prevent food waste, you can purchase day-old bakery items for half the price. They also serve a variety of yummy toasts, wraps, sandwiches, waffles, salads, smoothies, and parfaits! Whatever you end up trying from Rooted, you will not be disappointed, this place is tested, tried, and true to local’s hearts.

Rooted is also dog-friendly with an outside patio seating area; they have water bowls out for your furry friend. So feel free to bring your pup with you to get a quick and tasty pick-me-up.

sideboard- danville, ca

Sideboard in Downtown Danville is known by locals for their cozy unpretentious atmosphere, friendly service, fresh coffee, and tasty comfort food. They describe their restaurant as, “The safe haven where the social network and community can realize common values.” Located in the heart of downtown, it functions as a casual, walk-up counter spot where guests order at the front, grab their own utensils and water from a central sideboard furniture piece, and find a seat.

The menu features items like artisan coffee, house-made pastries, Eggs Benedict on Homemade English Muffins, chilaquiles, and seasonal dinners like pappardelle pasta.

They are also locally loved for offering vegetarian, vegan, and gluten-free alternatives. Customers describe Sideboard as having a cozy, "village" feel with a comfortable, dog-friendly outdoor patio and fountain area. They also frequently host live music events on the patio! If you are looking for a casual, but cozy and elevated, spot to grab a bite or a delicious coffee while walking your pup through downtown Danville, Sideboard is the place to go!

In Summary…

There are tons of delicious and unique places in the Diablo Valley to eat that are also dog friendly, which makes it difficult to narrow them down to the best of the best! However, this list of restaurants and food stops are our favorites and what would we would recommend, whether you live in the area, or are just visiting. As we all know, restaraunts are not typically dog-friendly and it can be difficult at times to decipher whether an establishment will be welcoming to your furry baby. These establishments will not only provide quality food and service, but also a fun and welcoming space to bring your pup. Enjoy!
